Har också läst att de skulle ha varit blonda, men enligt David Nicolle i "Kalka river 1223" (Osprey) har arkeologiska fynd visat att vissa hade mer asiatiska/mongoloida drag. Förmodligen var deras genetiska ursprung mycket blandat, ngt som var vanligt bland stäppfolk

Bara för att man talar om folks utseenden så är man inte en nazistisk rasbiolog som vill utrota eller förhöja någon. Gud i himlen, vad jag är trött på den politiskt korrektheten.

Deras förmenta ättlingar i dagens Ungern, där de kallas palóc (jfr den ryska benämningen) beskrivs i gamla rasböcker som ljusare än omgivande magyarer.

Nej, det är kanske inte historiskt särskilt relevant att spekulera i hur olika grupper kan ha sett ut.

Men det är kul att göra det i alla fall.

Edit: lägget till lite ot karta över ungerska dialekter, där ni kan hitta palovtserna i norr, på båda sidor om den ungersk-slovakiska gränsen.

Qipchak [Galpak'] kan också avse en lokal syrisk krigsherre, förhoppningsvis har jag rätt om jag säger han hade saraceniskt (beduinskt), d.v.s. icke-mongoliskt, urpsrung. Tidigare regent i Damaskus. Antagligen premierades lojalitetsband mellan nomadiska grupper -- Qipchak visade sig dock vara en förrädare (åtminstone kallas han så.)

I "The Flower of Histories of the East" (ca. 1307) av He'tum the Armenian anses tatariska grupper (bl.a. kiptjakternas föregångare) ha sitt ursprung från Belgeanbergen så man bör nog inte bli helt förvånad om de hade mongoliskt / tungusiskt utseende. De utsmyckade sig även med fjädrar och tuppkamfrisyrer så när man ser japanska bilder tänker man nog snarare på nordamerikanska indianer än européer.

The land where the Tartars first lived is located on the far side of the great Belgean Mountain [Burqan Qaldun], mentioned in the History of Alexander. The Tartars lived in that province like brute beasts, possessing neither writing nor [religious] faith. Through you they shall be freed from servitude to their neighbors a condition they have long endured, experiencing quarrels and exploitation from nearby lords. And the tax which you give to them shall in turn be taken from them." Chingiz was filled with great joy upon hearing this message of God, [g32] and he related the vision he had seen to everyone. However their leaders and grandees did not want to believe the veracity of the vision and some laughed at the old man. The following night these same leaders saw the white soldier and the same vision which old Chingiz had related to everyone. And they received the decree from immortal God to obey Chingiz and to make everyone obey his orders. Thus those seven leaders and grandees of the seven Tartar peoples gathered in an assembly and agreed to obey Chingiz as their natural lord.

De har sitt ursprung från ett folkslag som är "black, wild, and strange looking". Vad "strange looking" egentligen betyder får man inte reda på närmare. Kanske mongoloidiskt utseende. Det kan också vara en mytologisk beskrivning.
