Quiz: Flyg- och rymd-historia
Re: Quiz: Flyghistoria

Re: Quiz: Flyghistoria
"When properly implemented, a NACA duct allows air to flow into an internal duct, often for cooling purposes, with a minimal disturbance to the flow. The design was originally called a submerged inlet, since it consists of a shallow ramp with curved walls recessed into the exposed surface of a streamlined body, such as an aircraft.
This type of flush inlet generally cannot achieve the larger ram pressures and flow volumes of an external design, and so is rarely used for the jet engine intake application for which it was originally designed, such as the North American YF-93 and Short SB.4 Sherpa. It is, however, common for piston engine and ventilation intakes."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aviation_Traders_Carvair
"The carrier operated limited cargo service between Oslo and Kristiansund on the southern coast of Norway. The service lasted for little more than a month and it was idle again on 01 April 1975, four months after Norwegian Overseas Airways transferred the Carvair to Rorosfly Cargo until a lease agreement was negotiated with the International Red Cross for refugee relief service in Southeast Asia. The Carvair was repainted solid white with a Red Cross on the forward fuselage and vertical fin and Croix Rouge Internationale titles.it was intended for relief work in war torn Southeast Asia from a base of operations in Thailand."
"LN-NAA was at Basle Switzerland on 27 April and reported en route to Bangkok. Basle had been a regular destination for British Air Ferries during the peak of the Carvair era but the presence there in the Croix Rouge livery swas not ordinary and was noted."
"Norwegian owned LN-NAA left Basle painted in Croix Rouge Internationale titles. It was grounded at Bangkok for monies owed and eventually abandoned, never flying again. It was confiscated and left to deteriorate until finally broken up about 1985."

Re: Quiz: Flyghistoria
Vi ser Convair's ambitösa hopp om att förvandla B-36:an - till civilt passagerarflygplan….
Projektet kallades Convair Model 37 och baserades på deras XC-99
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_XC-99
varav ett exemplar byggdes. Model 37 - förblev en ''pipe-dream'

Det var Majoren Louis (''Lou'') J. Sebille

Det var Majoren Louis (''Lou'') J. Sebille
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_J._Sebille
On August 5, 1950, he attacked a North Korean armored column advancing on United Nations military units. Though his aircraft was heavily damaged and he was wounded during the first pass on the column, he turned his plane around and deliberately crashed into the convoy at the cost of his life.
North Korean armored column crossing the river in a shallow area. Sebille positioned himself for a medium-angle dive bomb run, planning to drop both of his bombs on his first attack. Diving, he held steady until about 2,500 feet (760 m). When he spotted a target column of trucks, artillery guns and armored cars, led by a North Korean Armored Personnel Carrier, he hit the bomb release button on his control stick, and then made a sharp pull-up to the left to stay away from his bomb blast. However, only one of his bombs had released, and the 500 pounds (230 kg) of unbalanced weight under his left wing may have contributed to his near miss on the first run.[6]
Frid över hans minne !North Korean flak struck Sebille's P-51 as he turned to make a second run, heavily damaging the aircraft and it began trailing smoke and glycol coolant.[5] Sebille had intended to release his second bomb, but he radioed Johnson that he had been hit and injured, probably fatally. Johnson radioed back Sebille should try to head for a US emergency landing strip in Taegu a short distance away, but Sebille responded with his last known words, "No, I'll never make it. I'm going back and get that bastard (sic)".[4] He dove straight toward the APC that was his target. He fired his six rockets in salvo, but instead of pulling up to the regular 2,000 feet (610 m), he deliberately continued to dive his airplane and the remaining bomb straight into the target, firing his six machine guns. His plane sustained even heavier damage, and he crashed into the North Korean convoy destroying a large contingent of North Korean ground troops and vehicles though being killed instantly himself
